VOCAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

The Vocal Studies Department at The Musical Horizons Conservatory (MHC) trains, guides, and nurtures gifted singers in various stages of development to help them achieve their individual goals and establish successful international performing careers.

As a member of the MHC’s Vocal Studies Department, you will benefit from an intensive course of study tailored to your needs. Working with internationally acclaimed instructors you will progress at your own pace through individual and group lessons, classes, and coachings; specialized masterclasses and residencies with industry leaders; and numerous opportunities to perform.

As a 21st-century performer in an ever-changing cultural landscape, you will not only be required by our industry to sing incredibly well – you will also need to be a highly-skilled actor and linguist; a sensitive and authentic artist with a deep understanding of the history, musical structure, text, and performance practice of the repertoire you are performing; and an individual who understands how to communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with conductors, directors, choreographers, designers, and other singers from around the world. The MHC Vocal Studies Department’s individualized approach to your training will ensure that you emerge from the program fully prepared to meet the demands of our dynamic profession.

Depending on the curriculum of your individualized course of study in the MHC Vocal Studies Department, from which you may ultimately obtain a Diploma or Artist Certificate, your schedule may include: weekly singing lessons; coachings; studio classes; piano lessons; classes in Song, Opera, Chamber Music, Drama, Movement, and Performance Practice; Italian, French, and German diction training; Alexander Technique; and Entrepreneurship seminars. You may also have the possibility of enrolling in elective courses outside of your main subject studies to further broaden your artistic and intellectual horizons

Internationally acclaimed singers, stage directors, conductors, coaches, and artist managers will visit the MHC Vocal Studies Department every year as guest teachers to share their experience and wisdom with you and to help broaden your professional network and knowledge of the industry. Guest teachers for the coming seasons at the MHC will include world-renowned singers Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, Tassis Christoyannis, Dimitri Platanias, and Dimitri Tiliakos; acclaimed voice pedagogue Christina Giannakopoulou; esteemed coach and collaborative pianist Dr. Pantelis Polychronidis, and many others.

In order to gain invaluable performance experience and share your talent and development with the public, you will perform frequently in opera, song, and chamber music projects; student evening recitals; and lunchtime concerts.
