Frequently asked questions.
What are the lengths of the study programs in the MHC’s Vocal Studies Department?
There are three (3) possibilities for individuals to study in the MHC’s Vocal Studies Department:
1) The Diploma Program;
2) The Artist Diploma Program;
3) Taking some classes in the MHC Vocal Studies Department while being enrolled as a student in another Greek conservatory (please note that this option does not result in a diploma or certificate from the Musical Horizons Conservatory).
The Diploma Program has a much longer study trajectory than the Artist Diploma Program, because the Diploma Program is comparable to an undergraduate/Bachelor’s Degree program. The course of study of the Diploma Program is, however, longer than the standard four (4) year Bachelor’s Program due to the number of courses which have been deemed compulsory by the educational branch of the Greek Government in order for a Diploma to be bestowed upon an individual.
The Artist Diploma Program, which is most appropriate for individuals who have already completed a Diploma or undergraduate/Bachelor’s Degree course of study, is intended to be a two (2) year course of study. However, depending on the level/training of the individual at the time of their enrollment in the Artist Diploma Program, the program may be completed in one (1) year, or, additional study time may be desired/required, with the individual completing the program in three (3) years. Each individual in the Artist Diploma Program will be advised about the possible duration of their course of study at the time of their enrollment in the Vocal Studies Department and during their first study year; then, during the MHC’s final exam period, each individual in the Artist Diploma Program will perform an exam in front of the Vocal Studies Department faculty, at which time the individual will be advised by the faculty about the projected date of their graduation and receipt of their Artist Diploma.
There is no set length of time for individuals who wish to take courses in the MHC Vocal Studies Department while being enrolled as a student in another Greek conservatory. These individuals will simply courses these courses at the MHC as the courses are offered and as their schedules permit (please note that this option does not result in a diploma or certificate from the Musical Horizons Conservatory).
Is there a specific program curriculum for the Diploma Program and the Artist Diploma Program?
Yes, there is a specific curriculum designed for both programs.
As the Diploma Program is comparable to an undergraduate/Bachelor’s Degree course of study, the curriculum for this program includes a number of foundational courses that have been deemed compulsory by the educational branch of the Greek Government including: music theory, solfège, music history courses, piano lessons, and others. In addition to these courses, individuals in the Diploma Program will take the Vocal Studies Department Main Subject courses (Drama; Movement; Song Literature Classes; Opera Class; Vocal Chamber Music; Performance Practice Class; Stagecraft for Singers; and Diction Classes) during their course of study when the Vocal Studies Department faculty feels that it is an appropriate time for them to take these classes.
The curriculum of the Artist Diploma Program is comprised of only the Vocal Studies Department Main Subject courses: Voice lessons; Coachings; Drama Class; Movement Class; Song Literature Classes; Opera Class; Vocal Chamber Music; Performance Practice Class; Stagecraft for Singers; and Diction Classes. Individuals in the Artist Diploma Program may also elect into courses at the MHC outside of their study program (i.e. piano lessons, music theory and/or music history courses, etc).

Which Vocal Studies Department classes are individual lessons and which are group classes?
Voice lessons and vocal coachings are strictly individual lessons. Opera Class, Song Literature Class, Performance Practice Class, and Vocal Chamber Music class are technically considered “group” lessons – however, these classes include a significant amount of individual one-on-one coaching in a masterclass style/setting. Drama and Movement classes are group classes.
It should be noted, however, that because the MHC Vocal Studies Department wishes to create a truly individualized approach to teaching its students, even our “group” classes will not at all be large in class size. We believe that smaller class sizes allow for more individualized – and therefore more beneficial – training for our students.
